What basics should i know about laser printers?

a customer i was working for was clearing out her basement and gave me a Brother HL-1440 laser printer. nothing real great, i know. but what are the basics i should know about these printers? i think they are a lot different from owning an inkjet. how do i access the toner cartridge? where can i get toner? just tell me what things are different from inkjets. What basics should i know about laser printers?
The technical differences between inkjets and lasers are probably too numerous to detail here but basically inkjets are just that, printers that use microscopic ink droplets to create an image where as a laser printer uses toner which is like fine powder that is fused to the paper with a drum.

The main thing to look for when buying a laser printer is the duty cycle (how many copies per month) toner cost etc.

There is a good review of the Brother HL1440 at http://reviews.cnet.com/laser-printers/b鈥?/a> and for a good general rundown on lasers go to http://www.pcworld.idg.com.au/index.php/鈥?/a>

Also note that the HL 1440 is a black and white printer only.color lasers are quite expensive. What basics should i know about laser printers?
they are very cost effective. the toner is expensive, but lasts for thousands of copies. They also use a drum which is very expensive but may last up to five toner cartridge changes. If the machine requires you to change the drum quickly, you may want to buy a new printer.
the ink is very expensive
