Probably because the initial cost is lower. Also most injet printers are smaller than laser.

Inkjets are cheaper, print photos at higher resolution, take up less desk space, ink cartridges are cheaper (though they dont print as many pages). You can get an Epson all in one with scanner/copier for as little as $30. An entry level black laser without scanning is $50. A color laser is $100 and if you add scanning it's even more.
